Consistency is the most important Dog Training Tip in all Dog Obedience Training

Inconsistency is the worst thing you can do during dog obedience training. Your will take time to learn whatever new skill you are teaching him/her; some dogs learn and master new skill much faster than other. Naturally puppies are good at learning quicker than grown dogs, but with persistence in your training every dog can learn. Of course the rate at which your dog will learn depends on the kind of dog training guide you are using; some dog obedience training guides are not as reliable.

If you know that you cannot successfully train your dog even with a reliable training guide, you may be better off looking for a certified dog trainer in your area. This is because, if you start off teaching your dog in the wrong way, you are just creating more dog behavior problems. No training on the other hand is much worse. It is however important to make your decision on what dog training method you want to use to avoid confusing your dog. I have seen several people, start off with one training method only to switch few weeks later and eventually get frustrated because their dogs are not responding well.

A word of caution, your dog will be persistent with behavior problems, so you must be ready to more persistent in your obedience training as well. Also remember that dog behavior problems are unpleasant habits that your dog developed as a result of lack of right training. When you train your dog, you are trying to replace these bad habits with good ones. I don’t about you, but I know getting rid of a habit especially bad habit is always a struggle. It is the same case with your dog, whatever behavior or habit he/she exhibit is what he/she thinks is acceptable. For example your dog doesn’t jump on you because he/she knows is the right response when associated with excitement. It is therefore your responsibility to persistently train your dog that jumping on people is not acceptable by teaching him another response that will replace jumping.

As you train your dog always remember that they are social animals that like to interact with other members of their own. So when your dog runs after other dogs in the park, he/she is just doing a natural thing. Instead of getting frustrated by try to accommodate this social behavior. You can try using a leash to manage this behavior as well as other skills.
